Coliving at Hotel Avalon in Bansko

Written by Mo

Booking a room in coliving space is one of the best things you can do as a digital nomad. It’s not only a great way to meet fellow travelers, but it makes the commute to work an easy one. That’s especially the case if you stay at Bansko’s Hotel Avalon.

About Hotel Avalon

Hotel Avalon was recently converted to a coliving, coworking space for nomads traveling to Bansko. It’s equipped with 13 rooms, a communal kitchen, and a common hangout and working area. There’s even a covered garden for those who prefer to work outdoors.

According to the founder, “Coliving at Avalon is a new and exclusive community project aimed at digital nomads and online teachers who love the mountains.” By staying and working here, you’ll have the Pirin Mountains at your doorstep – quite literally!

Avalon Coliving & Amenities

This is Bansko’s first dedicated co-living space, and the founders did a great job of making it cozy and homey. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by 2 friendly dogs (Avo and Fiona), so be sure to give them some love.

Dani and James are wonderful hosts that will do whatever it takes to make your trip a good one. They’re both extremely helpful and resourceful.

In terms of the common space, you’ve got plenty of options for chilling, socializing and of course working. Whether that’s on the sofa in front of a fire, in the garden or at a table in the former restaurant is up to you. There’s an honesty bar with a good selection of beers, whiskey and rums, so grab a drink with your new coliving friends.

Downstairs, guests have access to a sauna (only in winter), hot tub, yoga space, and massage room where you can book massages on site. You’ll also find a ski room with lockers to keep your winter sports gear safe and secure.

The Rooms

Avalon’s accommodations are geared towards nomads of every budget. There are 2 room types, both with a desk, couch, and private bathroom. They offer a single private room and a mini apartment-style room (single/double occupancy).

Some rooms have a balcony, and the bigger apartments come with a separate living area attached. No matter which one you book, you’ll have full access to fiber optic Wi-Fi, use of the facilities. Electricity and heating are included as well.

Avalon’s prices are extremely fair. The single rooms start around 370 euros per month including electricity and heating, but might be slightly more in winter.

Location in Bansko

Hotel Avalon is right smack dab in the middle of Bansko, so basically everything is within walking distance. In the neighborhood, you’ll find everything from supermarkets and convenience stores to restaurants and cafés.

If you choose to use any of the Coworking spaces in Bansko, they are all close by. With the closest being Altspace Coworking.

If you need a ride from/to the airport or any other destination James and Danni are always able to help.

Events & Social Calendar

The coliving puts on a wide variety of social events to get guests together.

They host a curry night almost every week, which is another great way to socialize. Both guests and non-guests are welcome, and there’s a massive spread of up to 8 different curries (both veg and non-veg) and always some leftovers for the next day.

The coliving hosts community events like themed potluck dinners, forest BBQs, trips to nearby hot springs, and mountain excursions. If that’s still not enough for you, there are plenty of board games to choose from.
